Guy: Please find out about the dust. This dio is beyond belief. These guys must absolutely love doing this. It's like being a young kid, playing in the sand box with Tonka trucks. CAW

Guy the weathering on the undercarriage is just incredible, especially the one where Quinella is talking on the phone with the women’s dress shop.
Those men do outstanding work.
Thanks
Steve

The Komatsu dozer after its weathering operation by Olive:

Michel modified a Caterpillar dumper into a maintenance support vehicle. Here it is during some maintenance operations, brand new on the Syncrude P&H shovel working site and some time later, in assistance to the O&K unit:

Words fail me on this. It is just epic and I marvel at the skill and dedication to this diorama.

This has to be one of the best topics I have seen on this forum, and I have been around longer than most!

I've just asked Denis about that dust and just got a response from him: Olive used Photoshop!
Apparently, he was very clever using this software and tried - before he left the LorraMine team - to pass all his skills and tricks to Denis, who should take care about such pictures in the future.
So, wait and see what Denis can do (and explain) in the coming period.

I hope it helps.

I love looking at these photos. What a fantastic layout. I'm not a fan of weathering in general, but I can't help but be impressed but this. The only thing it really needs however, is natural lighting outside - some decent sun and shadows would make it ten times more realistic. Is this a possibility, or is the whole thing indoors and there to stay? Despite the poor lighting, it's still great to see and probably great fun to work on.

Guy you really have to go thru these pictures a couple of times to catch all the details in the weathering, it’s just incredible.

Gents,

Many thanks for all your positive comments.

A Caterpillar 5130B mining excavator, weathered by Olive:

Even Australian Mt Arthur Coal equipment was temporarily "assigned" to the LorraMine extraction site. Here 2 of their Liebherr 994s:

Recovery of the Boss Land Rover, broken-down on site:

All major 4WD vehicles companies are trying to sell their models to LorraMine. Here a Hummer pick-up during field trials:

Following extensive tests of various models, the mine management decided to stick to Land Rovers and Chevrolets.

Olive did an excellent job when weathering that pure American combination:

I suppose that the "Weathering Man" saw it on an American road and not in France, as it should get a "convoi exceptionnel" sign over here instead of the "wide load" one.

Jamie,

Dios are built indoor in the East of France (where a nice weather outside cannot be guaranteed all year long) and are far too large to be moved outside afterwards. You'll find a few pictures below showing how they were made.
Therefore all pictures were taken under "artificial" light with conventional bulbs giving some sort of "yellowish" atmosphere in the early phase. These bulbs have all been changed since to more modern ones, giving a better "natural" light.

1- Building of the quarry face diorama:

2- Initial phases of the workshop area diorama (to be displayed at a later stage in this topic):

Guy
