 MAN/ES-GE TGX 41-680 BBS 10x4/6 tractor (Conrad model) and Goldhofer STHP-L4 modular semi-trailer with 4-line rear module and front intermediate bed (model built from various Conrad elements) carrying a 66 tonnes centrifugal decanter KHD Humboldt Wedag SC5-2 for a cement fabrication factory in its wooden transit box (homemade)    Regards. In Holland during the 80s, haulage of a (future) containerized genset:   Scania R142E-380 6x2/2 tractor (modified Tekno model) and unknown brand 3-axle heavy duty flatbed semi-trailer (modified WSI model) carrying a 22.22 tonnes Caterpillar XQ 800 APS 725/800kVA genset in its 30ft container (load to be built from Conrad left-overs from a vintage 2-axle box semi-trailer)   Regards. We are still in Holland, with 2 local Dutch carriers:   - left: Volvo F88 4x2/2 tractor and DAF 3-axle sheeted dropside semi-trailer (Tekno models), - right: DAF FT 95-400 ATI 4x2/2 tractor (Lion Car model being modified) and Klege-Europ 3-axle box semi-trailer (modified Tekno model). Great pics Guy. Steve is a Mack fanatic. As you can see in the background, he has modified many old Macks. Also, that Fiat Allis HD41B is now a push dozer. He did one for me as well. he does great work for a schmuck. I Wish he would come back to the Forum. I talk with him daily but he isn't coming back. He's a great fellow collector. CAW

Is it safe to assume the fifth wheel of the Mack DM800 was drilled out to accommodate the king pin of the trailers?

I expected Fire Replicas fifth wheels to be "operational" (that means - for me, at least - able to receive some sort of 1/50 model king pin, whatever type it could be); if not, it is right to assume that Steve had to drill them to hook his trailers to any of these FR tractors. But I'll ask him, anyway.

Here below Steve's answer to your question:
[...] on the trailers I use on FR, DM and Sword/WSI I pull out the king pin on the trailers and fill in with either JB Weld (then when harden drill a 3/64 hole into it) or Styrene tube with a 3/64 hole in it. Cut a 3/64 rod to the size needed to fit into hole and long enough to fit into 5th wheel and super glue in. On DM tractors you have to glue a small piece of styrene on the underside of the fifth wheel right after where the king pin would slide into place [...]. FR don’t have the guide where the 5th wheel slide into place, just a hole so the pin stays in place. Also you can use a bigger diameter metal rod to have less play in the 5th wheel. [...]

Didn't know such a thing exist ;)... I guess 6 axle is the biggest tractor you ll be able to find anywher, 1:1 or 1:50? In my collection, I like to start with the extreme big size and work down. So my crane collection obviously already have the cc8800 boombooster and sgc. Still trying to get the ptc... will have it one of these days...lol... As far as tractor and hauler goes, I guess i will now have to keep an eye out for the 6 axle scania 144g also!

Wildpig1234, Van der Vlist in Holland used very few 6-axle tractors, which all remained "one-offs" as, if they could avoid the use of any dolly, all required a special neck on the semi-trailer to take full advantage of the large weight transferred onto their 5th wheels: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dcf1eV7X4AAFDJX?format=jpg&name=largeThese days, European tractors are limited to 5 axles, which remain rare though, and the 6-axle tractor concept has been dropped.
