Steve,
Conventional transport all over Europe (except UK, I think) is limited to 4.0 metres in height, mainly because of bridges air gap being set at 4.5 metres as a minimum. The requirement for any heavy haulage combination is to keep its height as low as possible to go under most bridges or power lines, so you can avoid heavy haulage routes and costly detours. In this case the highest point being over the front axle, the front tires were removed to minimize overall height.

As far as I remember, it was to slightly modify the 2nd axle, so that it could be lifted and lowered, depending upon loading conditions. The bottom part of the suspension was already mobile, it was just a matter of having top axle supports linked to it.

Guy very nice close ups of the hydraulics, that is incredible craftsmanship on those. One question, where does one get the antennas from in this day and age. I have not even seen one of those in about 20 years, they look great for the telescopic piston. It is just what I need for the single axle dump trailer I’m building. Thanks Steve

I know that Jean-Francois had a stock of those antennas and I don't know where he gets them today (I agree with you, radio sets with such antennas don't exist anymore). May be from vintage stuff second-hand shops? I'll ask him and let you know.

The US Army tank transport somewhere in the Middle-East, escorted by an AM General Humvee M1026 4x4/2 high mobility vehicle (Solido model): I was planning to buy a Sword Abrams tank to go with the TWH Oshkosh/Systems & Electronics tank transport combination, when I found out that the MBT was modelled... in a 1/56 scale!!! I then decided to load instead a resin-made static model produced by Wartanks in a 1/48 scale (Wartanks was a short-lived European model company, from Italy I think) as the French Gaso.line version (used as a master by Wartanks) was no more available Regards.
