In the 80s, in order to manage a transport contract for 804 prestressed concrete beams of approx. 35 metres in length, the Dutch craneage and transport company Van Seumeren turns 2 second-hand Spanish tippers into tractors. One of these two units at work in a later project: Pegaso 3188/10 8x4/4 tractor and Goldhofer SN3-25/80 1+2-axle self-steering dolly with bolsters (modified IMC models) carrying 3 motorway bridge Tarmac Vinculum prestressed concrete beams of 11.47 tonnes each (Corgi load). Early 60s, Tekno - at that time, they were still a Danish model company - produced a 1/50 scale Mercedes-Benz truck highly detailed for the period with spring suspensions, glazing, cab internal details, accurate chassis with shaft and exhaust... The model in Kosangas livery (a Danish gas distribution company), waiting for company new decals: Mercedes-Benz LP 322 4x2/2 truck with Buschbaum dropside body (Tekno model) carrying a hand delivery trolley and 28 propane gas cylinders of 47 kilos each (Tekno elements) Regards. A few other old Tekno Denmark models used to build various "round cab" Mercedes-Benz units, sold in West-Germany and Europe from 1955. A drums delivery combination in progress: Mercedes-Benz LP 1418 4x2/2 truck fitted with a Buschbaum dropside body (modified Tekno model) and its Ackermann 1+1-axle dropside drawbar trailer (model made from a modified Tekno Denmark body on a Tekno Holland chassis), loaded with 2x24 bitumen drums (Corgi elements) To be continued. Another carrier modified into a tractor, waiting for its final coat of paint: Mercedes-Benz LP 334 4x2/2 tractor (modified Tekno model) and Schmitz(*) 3-axle flatbed semi-trailer (model made with a Corgi bed and a modified Joal tridem) with a 5.13 tonnes sheeted bricks load (Corgi element) Note*: the Schmitz semi-trailer modeled was fitted with their patented "Spur Aggregate" tridem, allowing for some sort of lateral movement in curves and thus, reducing combination overall turning circle. In the US during the 50s, road test of a vehicle on loan from a local Diamond T dealer: Diamond T 620 4x2/2 tractor (modified Corgi model) + Fruehauf-US PBI S1 24 1-axle flatbed semi-trailer (Corgi model being modified) loaded with Goodyear farm tractor tires - 24 x 380/85 R24 and 4 x 18.4 R26 (Gescha and Conrad elements) Regards. Back to the 21st century, somewhere in Central Europe large plains, meeting on a field between a "veteran" and a "modern": - on the left: Caterpillar Challenger 65 tracked tractor (modified Joal model) with a Vogel & Noot Hektor 1000 Vario 1-axle plow fitted with 7 reversible plows (Siku model), - on the right: Fendt 936 Vario 4x4/2 tractor and Pöttinger Jumbo 6010 Combiline 2-axle harvester trailer (Siku models). The Challenger 65, produced by Caterpillar from 1986, was the first model of a series of tractors equipped with the rubber tracks Mobil-Trac system. The range was sold in 2002 to AGCO, still involved in the production of Challenger farm tractors today: One can measure the huge development of agricultural equipment in the last 25 years, with this powerful (355hp for the Fendt against 270hp for the Challenger) and large capacity (32.9m3) Fendt/Pöttinger combination: Regards. None was sacrificed as early Conrad and Gescha trucks models were all fitted with these strange tires: I have changed them for more conventional ones and ended with a large number of "agricultural-type" tires. The only use I found for them since was to turn them into loads.

There are more than 50 years between those 2 generations of refuse trucks (and between their 1/50 scale models as well): - on the left: Mercedes-Benz LP 322 4x2/2 carrier fitted with a Kuka 210 rotational compaction refuse body (Tekno Denmark model being modified), - on the right: Mercedes-Benz Econic 2635 6x2/4 carrier with FAUN Variopress 522 blade compaction refuse body (NZG model). With their rotational compaction 210 model, Kuka become in the sixties the largest European producer of refuse bodies. On this market, serious contenders appear, among which Schörling (another West-German producer): Kuka lose their supremacy during the seventies and are finally incorporated by FAUN early eighties To be continued. With the incorporation of Kuka in 1983, FAUN become the European leader for refuse bodies (in particular with their Rotopress model, a direct evolution of Kuka's 210 system), Variopress and Bullpress models or with their pallet system inherited from another company SITA-France, which was dropped a few years later after merger.
